L'Oréal continues to increase its brand portfolio. The French cosmetics group has bought the exploitation and distribution rights to Ushuaïa's cosmetic products, which until now was owned by the French television channel, although it still retains the audiovisual, entertainment and hospitality rights.

According to the French newspaper L'Informé, L'Oréal has reportedly acquired the brand for 27.5 million euros. Ushuaïa is a brand that was created by French journalist Nicolas Hulot, after his programme of the same name (Ushuaïa) took the country by storm. Hulot devised his brand as a cosmetic line for body hygiene with soaps and shower gels.

L'Oréal is not only adding to its portfolio of retail brands, but also to other points in the chain to improve its own products with the inclusion of biotech companies. In September of this year, the French group made official its investment from BOLD (its investment fund that focuses on the acquisition of biotech companies) in the company Abolis Biotechnologies.

Last August, the French group also acquired a 10% stake in the dermatological company Galderma.
