Stanpa has shared its market evolution analysis of the cosmetics and perfumery sector covering the first six months of 2024. This study has revealed a favourable balance compared to the same period in 2023 and that the market, in terms of exports, amounts to 4,282.59 million euros and exceeds by 24% the figures recorded in the previous year, when 3,725.21 million euros were recorded.

The annual volume of exports closed last year at 7,787.40 million euros. This result represents double that of 2015 and maintains the positive export growth curve since 2006. Since that same year, exports have experienced an increase of more than 100% in less than a decade.

Val Díez, CEO of Stanpa, explained that the export figure is the best thermometer to certify the excellence of the perfumery and cosmetics industry in Spain. ‘The good results recorded to date at international level are a reflection of characteristic indicators of the domestic market, such as high quality and reliability’.

In terms of perfumery, Spain is the world's second largest perfume exporter, behind only France. During the months of January to June 2024, exports of perfumery and cosmetics products surpassed all values to date, especially in the month of May.

All categories have shown growth compared to the first six months of 2023. Perfume increased by 44.42% and skin care by more than 13.66%. Colour cosmetics also recorded an increase of 12%, while toiletries and personal care products increased by 10.82% and hair care by 1.88%.

The European Union has become the main recipient of these exports, accounting for more than half of these commercial operations, with France, Portugal, Germany and Italy as the main importing countries for Spanish cosmetics.

Domestic consumption of cosmetic products has also increased compared to the same period in 2023, with an increase of 7.82% to 4,690.07 million euros. The highest growth is in the perfumes and fragrances category, with an increase of 11.6%. Skin care also grew by 6.3% to reach 1,611.93 million euros and personal care increased by 6.4% to 1,035.71 million euros.

Consumer channels have also experienced steady and positive growth compared to the first half of last year. FMCG has reached 2,574 million euros and selective consumption has reached 1,077 million euros. Pharmacy, on the other hand, has reached 1,038 million euros and grew by 8.3%. E-commerce also continues to grow and there is an observed increase in the physical shop.
