Hair care giant Unilever is adding a hair care brand to its brand portfolio. K18, the brand that resulted in 2020, was the latest known deal for the corporate giant, which is dedicated to the manufacture of personal care and hygiene products.
K18 is a hair care brand with a six-product range that addresses the causes of hair damage with its first novel molecule - K18Peptide. It mimics the structure of human keratin to reverse chemical damage on all hair types in minutes, helping to replace complex hair treatment routines with immediate results. The brand has caught the attention of consumers and companies because of the inclusion of biotechnology and science in the formulation of its products.
The deal, which was signed at the end of December last year, is not yet known, but is expected to close in the first quarter of 2024. Unilever Prestige's CEO explained in the company's press release: "This acquisition complements our rapidly growing portfolio of premium and culturally relevant consumer brands. What Suveen, Britta and the team have created is a testament to the importance of brands built on unparalleled science, product efficacy and community love".
For his part, one of the co-founders of K18 explained that the formula for their brand's success has been to rely on nature, biotechnology and science. "We have discovered that by understanding the biology of hair, true hair health and expression can be achieved with less product, less time and less frustration. We are delighted to join forces with Unilever, who see the value of our unique, more sustainable and effective biological and biotechnological approach. Our team is proud to join their Prestige beauty business of forward-thinking brands that deliver real impact."
