International Perfumery Contest

The seventh edition of the Mouillette D'Argent International Perfumery Competition was held last Friday at the Julio Muñoz Ramonet Foundation in Barcelona.

This competition, which seeks to recognise the work of perfumers from all over the world, awarded three prizes to the fourteen finalists. These fourteen finalists were selected by an expert and independent jury from among the many candidates from all over the world. Each edition has an olfactory note on which the perfumers must base their creation, and this time it was leather. This note had to contain a specific chord, a combination of tobacco, smoky, animalic and storax notes.

The Mouillette D'Argent jury was chaired by Ramón Monegal and awarded the prize for best perfume in the overall category and best independent perfume to the American-born perfumer Andrew Hugg with his fragrance "Black Cherry Suede". Hugg also received the prize valued at €2,500 plus the complete collection of books from NEZ magazine, which promotes and celebrates olfactory and perfume culture around the world.

Elena Magariño was the winner chosen by the public vote with her creation 'Angel and Demon' and received the silver award designed by Majoral Jewellery in Barcelona and a cash prize of 500 euros.

The event concluded with a pleasant cocktail among all those attending the celebration of this seventh edition of the competition, organised by Ainea Perfums, Beauty Cluster and Noreste, with the collaboration of the Julio Muñoz Ramonet Foundation, Rosendo Mateu and the Barcelona City Council. The main fragrance houses were partners of the event, such as CPL Aromas, Cosmo, Eurofragance, Iberchem, Lluch Essence and Scentmate by dsm-Firmenich, as well as the packaging suppliers for the cosmetics and perfumery industry Rafesa and Sampling Innovation.

As part of the celebration, the olfactory note for the eighth edition of the International Perfumery Competition was also announced: cistus. According to the president of the jury, Ramón Monegal, it is an ingredient linked to a great tradition and history in the perfumery and fragrance sector: "cistus can be combined with flowers, with spices, with leather? It is an ingredient with a long history and very rich that gives rise to many different compositions". Both he and Irene Gisbert have encouraged the future contestants to be disruptive and take risks in their next creations, inviting them to experiment and look for new chords.
