Last Saturday, February 11, International Day of Women and Girls in Science was celebrated, and mesoestetic®, which stands out for its social involvement in education, training, and entrepreneurship, wanted to actively engage in the cause by opening the doors of its headquarters in Viladecans.

The world leader in cosmetics and aesthetic medicine decided to hold a day of scientific dissemination activities at its HQ for young students. As Anna Figueras, the communication manager of mesoestetic®, explained to 'Next In Beauty', eight high school senior students from 10 public and private institutes in Viladecans attended the event, all of whom shared an interest in science. This interest in science is crucial as they will make one of the most relevant decisions for their professional future in June when they choose between science or humanities.

But how was it? It was an innovative experience for both the participants and mesoestetic®, which was the first time the company celebrated this event. As the communication manager of the organization explained, the event's guiding thread was that the young women would create their own product from scratch. This meant that 15 and 16-year-old girls would recreate the entire production process of a cosmetic product, starting with marketing and the product idea. They identified the product they wanted to create, such as a cream, serum, or sunscreen, and, with the help of the marketing department employees, identified their target audience. With a complete briefing, they moved to the R&D laboratory, where they selected the textures, active ingredients, components, and other specificities of their products. They also had the opportunity to choose the packaging and container that would accompany their products, which they took home as a souvenir of this enriching experience.

To culminate the morning, during the last half-hour, the young women had to present their products to a mesoestetic® tribunal, explaining the process, idea, and finally selecting a winner, although that day, all had a prize.

The feedback from the participants and mesoestetic® coincided: it was a very gratifying experience, and, as Anna Figueras indicates, it will be repeated (also for young people) after the positive response from both parties.

Through these types of activities, the students were able to learn that science goes far beyond the laboratory, and that there are other career opportunities, such as communication. "The purpose of this event is to give visibility to science led by women to inspire the scientists of the future," explains Mari Carmen González, Head of R&D at the pharmaceutical laboratory. She adds, "At mesoestetic, we want to promote young women's access to education in scientific fields and thus contribute to boosting the role of women in science."

Involved in educational work, mesoestetic also undertakes other activities related to educational programs that seek to promote talent, entrepreneurial mindset, and innovation in young people, such as Metròpolis FP Lab of the Barcelona Professional Foundation, Talent a les Aules, Talent School, and collaboration through a scholarship with IESE.
