Perfumerías Regia says goodbye to its emblematic shop in Paseo de Gracia in Barcelona. After almost 100 years, this Friday 31 December, it will lower its shutters for the last time.

The owners have made this official statement through their Instagram account: ‘After 97 years in the world of perfumery, we have decided to leave the sale from the counter to continue only with the online shop. They have been some magnificent years in which we have been able to enjoy our work, serving and advising our customers with the utmost professionalism and dedication’ they explained in a brief statement through the social network. The owners also wanted to thank all the customers, distributors, friends and staff who have made this journey possible, and with a special mention to Josep Giralt, who started the adventure.

Pefumerias Regia opened on the eve of the Christmas holidays on 14 December 1928. A perfume shop that survived until a war that marked the history of Spain and Catalonia, but in 2025, Josep Giralt, who started with a simple and humble shop in Dreta de L'Eixample, opened a second branch in Muntaner. This brought his total number of establishments to thirteen throughout the city. But its most representative and symbolic shop in Barcelona was located at Passeig de Gràcia 39. Unlike the first one, it was a spacious, elegant establishment that attracted the attention of those who passed by.

Thanks to Giralt's passion for the world of perfumery, the shop located on Passeig de Gràcia also houses a perfume museum that exhibits two complete periods: from antiquity to the 18th century and continuing up to the present day.

Perfumerias Regia managed to be a benchmark for perfumery in the Catalan capital with thirteen stores, but unfortunately, the centres have been closing and this Friday the only one that had survived, announces its closure. It has been considered the best in the field of niche perfumes and has some of the best brands on the market such as Byredo, Clive Christian, Creed and Tom Ford. Gradually, some of these brands have diversified and joined other chains, or have even opted to open their own shops.

The four grandchildren of Josep Giralt took over the reins of the online business, leaving retail aside and closing the shutters of the only store that remained.

The Planas Giralt Foundation now manages the Perfume Museum, which has a unique collection of 5,000 pieces, including antique and modern bottles, miniatures, labels, historical advertising materials...
