A year ago, Special Chemicals took a major step forward by launching its own cosmetic ingredients division, based on biotechnological innovation and a commitment to sustainability.

Over the past year, it has developed a portfolio that includes several key product lines that stand out for their advanced technology and sustainable approach. SCH ShellCare® has specialised in the encapsulation of active ingredients, improving their stability and bioavailability for more effective applications. SCH PeptCare™, focused on bioactive peptides, offers innovative solutions to combat specific skin problems. On the other hand, SCH Actives™ combine classic actives with modern technologies, boosting their performance and ensuring continuous improvement in cosmetic formulations, including gold- and diamond-conjugated actives among them. The SCH Blend™ line provides custom blends designed to optimise functionality and performance in specific products. Finally, the recent addition of SCH AlgaeTech™ reinforces the company's commitment to sustainability through the development of biotech actives derived from microalgae grown in closed photobioreactors.

Since its creation, this division has been committed to both innovation and the improvement of traditional ingredients, adding value to the cosmetics industry with multifunctional and sustainable solutions.

Highlights of the first year

  1. Proven success of SCH ShellCare® SCALP. The SCH ShellCare® SCALP ingredient, developed under the concept of hair ‘skinification’, has achieved outstanding results in efficacy studies. Its properties to significantly reduce hair loss, increase hair density and decrease sebum production have positioned it as a key active ingredient in advanced hair care.
  2. Launch of SCH AlgaeTech™: Innovation in sustainable biotechnology. The SCH AlgaeTech™ line is based on the use of closed photobioreactors that reuse CO2 from other industries for the cultivation of microalgae. These biotechnological assets stand out for their multiple benefits, in addition to their contribution to sustainability and reduction of the carbon footprint.
  3. Advances in encapsulation with SCH ShellCare®. The encapsulation systems developed in the SCH ShellCare® line have optimised the stability and bioavailability of key ingredients such as azelaic acid or gluconolactone, among many others, ensuring controlled release and enhanced action.
  4. Expansion and international recognition. The division has been recognised for its quality and commitment to innovation and sustainability, establishing strategic partnerships with leading global cosmetics brands. It has also expanded its distribution network in key markets such as Taiwan, the Philippines, Korea and Japan, strengthening its presence in Asia.

Towards a promising future

Our first year has exceeded all expectations. We have shown that innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand to transform the cosmetics industry. This is just the beginning of a journey towards a cleaner, more effective and planet-friendly future,’ said Martí Sarrate, Sales Manager of Special Chemicals.

Looking ahead to next year, the division plans to continue to expand its ingredient portfolio, continuously improve traditional actives and strengthen its presence in international markets, reaffirming its leadership in innovation and sustainable production.
