The Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS) issued a press release last Friday stating that, like the French authorities, it is aware of the possible appearance of cysts in the armpit area related to the use of the deodorant Nuud the carefree deodorant. The AEMPS also took the opportunity to claim and highlight the previous recall of all batches of the deodorant in France, having received similar notifications in France.
The Spanish organisation explained in the press release that after the publication of this news in the media, 4 notifications of serious unwanted effects have been received, which consisted of the appearance of painful cysts in the area of application, as indicated in France.
The AEMPS has argued that after an exhaustive analysis of the cases and the technical information provided by the responsible person on the product, it is concluded that the undesirable effects observed could be related to the consistency and oily nature of the product, which could favour the obstruction of the pores in the area of application of the product. This fact, linked to the characteristics of the skin in the area of application, which is subject to anatomical occlusion and permanent friction, would increase the risk of cyst formation and microbial infection. However, the AEMPS wishes to emphasise that with the information available at this time, the qualitative and quantitative composition of the product complies with Regulation 1223/2009 on cosmetic products. With these data, the AEMPS maintains a prudent position in that a possible risk to human health related to the use of this product cannot be ruled out.
Therefore, the AEMPS has requested the person responsible for the product NUUD B.V. to voluntarily withdraw and cease the marketing of the product Nuud the carefreee deodorant in Spain.
