The Istituto Europeo di Design (IED), the largest education network in the creative field: design, fashion, visual arts and communication, with its 11 branches in different countries, is holding a new edition of Fashioners of the World in Barcelona on 12 June. Each year, it chooses an iconic location in the city of Barcelona in which to show the world how IED Barcelona students interpret fashion. In previous editions, it has been held at the Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site, Casa Vicens and the Fundació Miro. This year, it is the turn of the Sala La Paloma, which is now taking over the baton. This little jewel of the Raval announced its reopening in December, and has managed to transform and reinvent itself time and time again without losing its uniqueness and values such as freedom of creation, transgression and openness.
The sum of the spirit of IED Barcelona and the DNA of La Paloma will be reflected in the fashion show looks of the young designers who will be celebrating the end of their formative journey at the design school and their entry into the professional world in this historic venue.
The creative proposals to be seen at Fashioners of the World will address themes related to sustainability, self-discovery or inclusivity and diversity of gender, bodies and sizes. The family, politics or the influence of Artificial Intelligence in our society will be other sources of inspiration for the collections through the use of sustainable fabrics and materials and the latest cutting-edge technologies.
To develop their projects, the students have followed a four-year training course tutored by the IED Barcelona faculty, with the advice of professionals such as Pilar Pasamontes, Scientific Director of Fashion, and Julia Weems, Director of the Fashion Department at the school. The result of all this work will be assessed, as in each edition, by an outstanding international jury that will award the now traditional Franca Sozzani prize for Best Fashion Collection, Isabel Coixet for Best Fashion Film, Manuel Outumuro for Best Shooting and Jordi Labanda for Best Fashion Illustration.
An exclusive fragrance
In this edition, the world of perfumery also has a place, as Jérôme Di Marino, perfumer at Mane, one of the world's leading groups in the perfume industry, has created a special fragrance that will be distributed to all the guests at the fashion show. Under the name "Mala Reputation", the perfume is inspired by the bohemian and unconventional atmosphere of La Paloma and its slogan: "Mala Reputation since 1903".
It is a fragrance that, as Mane explains, offers a crescendo of warmth. "It starts with a torrid spice explosion of Red Pepper, SafrylTM (saffron), Timur Jungle Pepper EssenceTM and Cinnamon. This aphrodisiac cocktail is then combined with the sweetness of Tobacco and Jungle EssenceTM Gingerbread to create an extremely strong addiction.
