The fashion industry is going through some sad and grey days. Last Friday the Italian media reported the death of Italian designer Roberto Cavalli. Cavalli died in Florence at the age of 83 after years of battling an illness.
The famous designer, founder of his eponymous fashion label, graduated from the Florence Academy at the age of 20 and then moved on to what conquered his heart: fashion. It was not until the 1970s that he made his debut in the world of fashion and, as experts in the field point out, one of his characteristic traces that remain in his eternal legacy was the use of the patchwork technique. At the age of 30, Cavalli decided that his surname would be his trademark and created his first collection under this name. A real success that allowed his designs and his way of creating and innovating to move to the main and most important catwalks and fashion festivals in the world.
Roberto Cavalli has dressed influential people from the world of art, film and music, such as Madonna, Cindy Crawford, Charlize Theron and Sharon Stone.
The designer sold his label to an investment group a decade ago in 2014, when the brand posted losses of up to €12 million despite a turnover of more than €210 million.
