Coster achieves a new sustainability milestone. The Coster Group is committed to achieving zero landfill waste management by 2026 worldwide.through detailed mapping of all relevant waste inventories and streams, the Group has succeeded in meeting its target at each of its eight Trentino production sites, and the Zero Waste to Landfill certificate is an important milestone on its journey.
This major achievement is the result of a rigorous audit carried out by Intertek, which confirmed the company's commitment to responsible resource management.
By implementing a comprehensive waste management system and adopting innovative practices, Coster has achieved an impressive 99.995% waste diversion rate from landfill, far exceeding the minimum requirements for ZWL certification.
From June 2023 to June 2024, the eight sites disposed of up to 1860 tonnes of waste as follows (waste diversion rate from landfill and incineration is 99.995%):
- Waste to landfill rate = 0
- Waste to incineration rate = 0.005%.
- Waste to recovery/recycling rate = 98.407%.
- Waste to energy rate = 1.588%.
The certification attests to the Coster Group's investments in advanced waste treatment and recovery technologies, its commitment to involve all employees in the waste reduction process through an integrated waste management system. With these initiatives, the company aims to ensure maximum transparency in the management of waste and its life cycle after disposal.
‘The achievement of Zero Waste to Landfill certification is an important milestone for our Group. While we are proud of this result, we recognise that our journey towards a more sustainable future is ongoing. We are actively working to further optimise our processes, explore new technologies and collaborate with our partners to achieve the ambitious targets set out in our sustainability policy. Our goal is to minimise the landfill disposal of waste we generate in our factories, warehouses and offices to less than 1% at Group level by 2026, maximising resource recovery and contributing to the circular economy,’ says Andrea Raineri, Chief Innovation & Sustainability at Coster.
