L'Oréal has reached an agreement with Lactobio. L'Oréal announced yesterday that it has completed the acquisition of the Danish-based company that is a leader in microbiome and probiotic research.

As the company explained, this acquisition is a strategic move for L'Oréal in the scientific territory of the microbiome that seeks to deepen its knowledge of the micro-organisms that are in the skin. This operation, explains the company, opens up new scientific opportunities and strengthens Lactobio's important intellectual property portfolio to develop new safe and effective cosmetic solutions.

Lactobio is a company founded in 2017 by Søren Kjærulff, Ph.D. and Charlotte Vedel, Ph.D., who developed a unique and proprietary microbiome discovery platform and screening method to select the most effective and safest strains. These precision probiotics, created from a large biobank of lactobacillus bacteria, will be used in the development of topical formulations containing live bacteria, inspired by nature to bring numerous benefits to skin and hair.

Anne Colonna, Global Head of Advanced Research at L'Oréal Group has valued the incorporation of Lactobio as a great source of scientific and technological knowledge and will help them to strengthen the knowledge around the microbiome and the world of beauty: "by joining forces, we hope to develop a new generation of cosmetics".

The founders of the Danish company were pleased to be part of such an important group in the cosmetics sector as L'Oréal.

In this way, L'Oréal reaffirms its commitment to continue investing in biotech companies in order not to fall behind in innovation and to be at the forefront. Last July, L'Oréal reaffirmed its investment in biotech companies after acquiring a stake in Debut Biotech. Last September, the French group also invested in Sinehigh Innovation, a Chinese startup founded in 2017 by a doctor specialising in supramolecular chemistry with an innovative smart self-assembly technology, allowing previously impossible combinations of ingredients, resulting in final products with greater efficacy and sustainability.
