Use of cosmetics

According to a study1 recently published by Cosmetics Europe, the main European association of the cosmetic industry, cosmetics are essential in our day in day-out. You had thought about it for some time?

The results have been surprising: the Europeans use an average of seven cosmetic products different to the day and almost thirteen distinct cosmetics to the week. In women, this number increases, being nine products used daily and fifteen weekly way.

These data coincide with the obtained by Stanpa at a national level, since, according to his estimates, the Spaniards on average use between seven and nine products each day. A total of twenty-eight distinct cosmetics to the year.

But the most interesting of this study, definitely, is the increase in the perception of men on the importance of cosmetics versus previous years (5,5%). Mainly we notice this increase in the categories of corporal care, solar, perfume, and make-up.

And which is the main cause of all this?

The answer is clear: feel good about ourselves. The positive influence of the use of cosmetics is more than recognized. The importance of being able to keep ourselves clean, protected, and able to choose how we present ourselves to others cannot be underestimated.

62% of those surveyed believe that cosmetics and personal care products are important in how they are seen by those around them and how they interact with others. Or put another way, they believe that cosmetics improve our self-esteem by guaranteeing our personal hygiene and taking care of our skin and hair.

Which products attract the most interest from consumers?

Oral care, body care, hair care, skin care... between 80-90% of the users of these products consider them important or very important. Watch out! that the subject of makeup is also relevant: 27% of consumers under 25 years of age use it to increase their self-confidence.

And despite considering that the cosmetics we use are effective to ensure our personal hygiene, the truth is that they go beyond a simple "cleaning". We cannot forget the significant role that cosmetics play, for example, in patients with cancer or severe acne, where maintaining a good barrier function is as significant as feeling confident with themselves and with the world thanks to corrective makeup.

Therefore, of all these data can conclude saying that it exists a clear relation between the utilization of cosmetic products and our welfare, considering them important or very important in our daily life. A soap, a paste of teeth, a protective solar, a perfume… Think that could live without the basics?

1 For the realization of this study interviewed 6.000 consumers from countries like Bulgaria, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Low Countries, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom
