Proteos Biotech introduces smartker, the first keratinase-based topical treatment, to be launched early next year. With this new milestone, the Spanish company consolidates its position at the forefront of the biotech sector and fulfils its commitment to transform the science of skin care. 

smartker is the first facial line based on recombinant enzymes, whose efficacy and safety is supported by 10 clinical studies involving more than 200 patients. What sets smartker apart is its smart mechanism of action, based on the innovative Keratinase PB333. This is an enzyme developed in-house by Proteos Biotech, which enables treatment suitable for all skin types, even the most sensitive.

In the stratum corneum (the outermost layer of the epidermis), corneodesmosomes are the main intercellular adhesive structures that act as a barrier for the skin. Keratinase PB333 is able to act specifically on them, facilitating an increase in skin permeability.

Thanks to this novel mechanism of action, the active ingredients are able to act in the deepest layers of the skin, where they can unfold their full potential. The smartker line consists of five specific presentations, each carefully formulated to meet the needs of daily clinical practice: chrono-ageing, moisture deficit, loss of firmness, hyperpigmentation and acne-prone skin.

This launch further legitimises pbserum as a pioneering and leading brand in the manufacture of enzyme-based therapeutic systems, representing a further step in the company's international expansion. In 2023, the pbserum brand has been registered as an injectable medical device for other product lines in countries such as the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Morocco, Argentina and Saudi Arabia.
